So this should show up on the blog - fingers crossed.

But it occurs to me of late that I’m actually not too bad at it. I’m certainly more of an all rounder than I ever gave myself credit. And that can end up being a problem as I often want to know about all sorts of things and struggle to keep focus when there are a million things going on around.

So, right now I’m managing a development team (a third party) develop a website - its curently in Beta - getting tweaked and adding bits of functionality. Its pretty good, and that’s based on what others are telling me. Sure it has its flaws but hey, I got it built.

Now, it also needs a good marketing plan as its an etail b2b/c site selling ‘creative’ software and primarily plug-ins, mostly video and also 2D and 3D image editing. Its been a fascinating few months getting my head around that, I can tell you.

We have an affiliate programme, paying a good commission of 8%, which I think is quite generous. And plenty of opportunity to make some revenue from it. Its a big market out there.

We are working on social sites, twittering, will be blogging, and online PR, we’re doing SEO work and there will of course be some PPC and online advertising, at least to start.

What I really want to get across to people though is the whole idea about this site http://www.av3software.com.

We’re aiming at being envirnonemntally friendly by not moving around atoms (as Jeff Jarvis puts it in his “What would Google do?“), trying to give people a quick and easy way to find the software and plug-ins that they require and of course excellent experience and service.

So the idea? Online, no physical products, drive traffic through the network of affiliates, and others. And to use Google’s mantra - do no harm, maybe even do some good.

I’m going to keep riffing on this to see where it leads me. Haven’t done enough blogging for far too long.

We’re selling plug-ins for the creative markets, which includes Adobe After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid, Autodesk and others. As well as software itself for video and 3D work.

What some of this stuff can do is mind boggling. No wonder special effects almost look real these days!

Launching our affiliate programme too, mustn’t forget that, and defintely looking for people to give us feeddback on the site (positive as well ). I must say - I am enjoying getting this done and applying a number of principles I have wanted to for a while.

Have to thank the owners and directors for having the vision to let us work in a virtual way. AS Stuart skyped me yesterday, “Web 3.0 software company”!

I’m going to try blogging a bit more often now. See what happens…

My CV polished updated and out there, had a number of conversations, and I have to say feeling both optimistic and really concered at the same time.

Optimistic about what is out there in terms of new challenges and thinking it’s for the best, whilst also worried about making sure I secure something, so as not to let down my family. They are wonderful and very supportive.

And so have a number of people and I appreciate their words, thoughts and actions.

So wish me success and achievement of a secure role ASAP.

And anyone else who is in this - I’m rooting for you.

This isn’t just a metaphor.

Currently I’m trying really hard to do is go back to absolute basics, and that for me is tough. Particularly when I am relatively confident the way I am used to working would indeed put me in the right place on the map.

Deep breath - back to work.

I’m always very interested in the types of stories that appear in such a spot. They often have similar themes which are just lost in the area of the UK where I live. The creation story for Tiree is very similar to one I heard in Slovenia, whereby God has made most of the earth by throwing out lumps of land onto the planet. Suddenly he finds a bright shining jewel of a speck of land in his hand. He places the Hebrides and especially the Isle of Tiree which is the jewel in God’s crown.

I don’t tell it so well but you get the gist. This place is special and therefore the people who live here are special. Great self confidence booster and establishes a fantastic sense of identity for the community linked indelibly with the landscape.

I guess its why lots of narrative theory talks about the power of origin stories to generate a sense of identity and community in any grouping but especially businesses.

I wonder what would be the best origin story for you or for your organisation to prosper both internally and externally?

I think perhaps I should write some!

Anyway my rambling is to point to this from Shawn at Anecdote who references an interview with Robert Mckee.  Which is a great read. The quote resonates with me especially:
