BBC NEWS | Technology | Spammers and virus writers unite
Spammers are turning to tactics favoured by virus writers to get their unwanted messages into circulation.
Anti-spam activists have found that some unscrupulous spammers are hijacking the e-mail accounts of innocent users to send millions of messages.
Another thing to deal with - just when you think a corner is turned… I think there must be an analogy with biology here morphing / evolving into something else when you think you have the answer to it…
128k NOT Broadband via Marc Marc’s Voice
How broad before you can call it broadband?. The Register: How broad before you can call it broadband? Anybody remember the days when broadband was defined as >=1Mbps? Of course fiber to the home was right around the corner, too. [Hack the Planet]
Some British agency is saying that 128kbps is NOT broadband. Right on! Maybe one day we’ll properly call today’s broadband = mid-band, when we finally get FTTH 5 Mbps or better into our homes.
Don’t disagree with the sentiment however do consumers really understand this stuff anyway? Before the Advertising Standards Agency made this call the regulator Oftel included 128k as Broadband.
When will consumers (i.e. mass market) want 5 mbps? Ever?
When they get it what will they do with it?
Don’t get me wrong - I believe more bandwidth will be a good thing but Consumers aren’t going to bite until you give them the reason to (or the so called ‘killer app’)
BTW this is what the fuss is about!

Richard is an old school firend who now does extraordinary things with robots. Unfotunately don’t get to see or speak to him much, which is a real shame.
BBC NEWS | Technology | Wired oven keeps food cool
I recently used this as an example of the connected world in a presentation. I am not really convinced that this will take off yet (if ever). Its too mcuh technology for its own sake without a real consideration of people’s actual needs…
I have been attempting to read Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People in addition yesterday I picked up and started to read Anthony Robins, Awaken the Giant within!
Both books offer ways to improve your life and while I am normally fairly cynical about these types of things. I think they may prove useful. I intend to spend some time reading, taking notes and hopefully taking actions from these books over my Easter holiday.
Trust is so important. The fact that I spend more time with people doesn’t necessarily mean that I trust them, however in terms of blogs, you do get to see people’s point of view on a regular basis.
I think reading someone’s blog regularly does bring a degree of trust but only on certain topics. The war fro example gives a new perspective on some bloggers, one which may bring the whole idea of trusting them into question.

Blogging and Trust
Steve Ivy follows up on my hope that Jim Fawcette would start weblogging.
Good point! I know that I trust people who weblog more than I trust non webloggers. Why? Because I get to know their philosophy. Their point of view. Day after day after day. Look at how Dan Shafer and I get along. I know more about Dan than I know about most of the people I even work with. Seriously. How many people do you work with that you have passionate discussions about things with?
[The Scobleizer Weblog]
I am finding that this is true for me as well. I have formed an opinion based on months of observation about a group of bloggers that I feel comfortable with. Trust is engendered because you have access to a quite complete perspective of the other. How often at work do you know how a colleague really thinks? You may know his opinion on a project. You may know his opinion of a person but I seldom was let in deep enough at work to understand the full person. Blogging gives us that chance to see below the surface
